Cleanliness is the main condition. All tools and equipment that come in contact with stainless steel must be free from dust, dirt and, most importantly, from particles of iron and rust. Equipment used with iron or ordinary steel should not be used for stainless steel.


If this is not possible, the tool should be thoroughly cleaned before use with stainless steel. Particles of iron, steel or rust in the presence of moisture can cause severe corrosion of stainless steel. If, however, such damage has occurred, wash the rust stain with a 10-15% warm solution of nitric acid and then with water.


To protect against mechanical damage during processing, the steel can be coated with a plastic film. The use of protective coatings reduces the cost of finishing.


In the process of processing stainless steel, its properties inevitably deteriorate. Defects resulting from this must be corrected. For example, during welding, the resulting weld does not meet the requirements for its corrosion resistance and appearance. To maintain the corrosion resistance of the weld at the level of the base metal, it is necessary to process it after welding.


Conventional solvents (chlorine-free) can be used to clean stainless steel surfaces. After that, it is recommended to rinse with water.


With proper care, stainless steel is an ideal material for widespread use and a guarantee that products made from it will last for many years.
